I really enjoyed most of these challenges. Some of them really challenged me, but I guess that was the point, afterall. I really was frustrated though on a couple of them. Wanted to drop-kick my computer (but I didn't... I know Piya and the gang would not have appreciated it. Piya and the Gang. I like that. I should write a book...).

I loved playing with Youtube and Facebook. I really enjoyed finding pictures and posting them. I really enjoyed doing my little HHM thing. That was loads of fun. Basically what I wrote in my last post... that goes for this one as well. It was nice interacting with everyone and collaborating. It was nice having a cult following. Ha. Ha. I think that I will continue with the blog and I hope that many of you will as well. I really enjoyed reading your posts. It was cool learning about others (not only those at Alvin Sherman, but Law, BCL, HPD, etc.). I was able to leave my little 3rd floor office for a bit, via cyberspace.

I've learned to be more patient with myself. I learned that technology can be my friend (tell that to my crashed computer... but that's another story). I learned loads. I learned things, in fact, that I would have NEVER even bothered to look at, let alone learn how to do. It was an interesting experience.

Like I said before, those involved with this project did a really good job. Kudos to you all. Maybe even some whatchamacallits as well (good luck finding them).

Soooo... would I do this again? You bet your sweet... yes. Yes, I would. It was fun! Which is what I love. Please read all posts again from the beginning, if you don't believe me. Besides... would I lie to you? C'mon. You know me better than that by now. Hang your head in shame.

FINALLY... Facebook!!!!

I have been waiting to do this post since trying to catch up. I made a Facebook profile with my DD psycho persona. I even made an email account for it so that I could remain anonymous. However, since I wanted to be included in the Nova loop, I ended up having to add my Nova email address. My cover was thus blown.

Soooooo... the mask is off!!! (Well, it's been off for a few posts. Remember the Myspace thing?). For those who didn't know, it's MEEEEEEEEEEEE. Tanya, that is. From Document Delivery (hence the DD thing... it was supposed to be a whole Departmental thing, but my stinkin' coworkers left me blowing in the wind by my lonesone... well... I did have you fine folk for company). I'm not psycho, (some might disagree to that statement...) but I am a psych major (O.K... maybe a little psycho... a little more neurotic and less psychotic). And, I'm a lady. Well, sort of.

Thanks for reading my blog. Thanks for all the comments and for the cool interaction. I wish I had been able to post some more (especially on my whole Hispanic Heritage Month obsession).

Anyhow. What was I talking (writing) about? Oh, yeah. Facebook. I love it. I do. Almost as much as Youtube. You can add cool applications. Play fun games. Have all sorts of joy in front of a keyboard and screen. Yay!

The Pod People Beckon

Alright. So this one I was not too keen on. I had a little bit of trouble adding a podcast to my blogline (well, first I forgot my blogline password and had to have it emailed to me). Maybe my mind is turning to goo and that is also affecting my ablities. Somehow I managed to add an NPR podcast to my Bloglines account, which can be seen on my profile here in this blog. It's under My Web Page (or something). I'll check and confirm in a bit. (Confirmation: Yeah, it is).

Wikipedia (of course) gave a good definition of what a podcast was too. Told ya that I loved me some Wiki Wiki.

Anyhow, I'm not really that good at downloading these things. I should have asked my no-longer-so-little-he's-now-taller-than-me brother. He's a wiz with that sort of thing. I should have him do this podcast thing for me. The results may have varied.

P.S. iTunes also has a good selection of audio media, but I don't have it downloaded on this computer.

I just realized that in my haste, I nearly forgot to blog about challenge 19. Out of the short list, I definitely love Youtube (as you saw in the post below). Facebook is one of my new found loves. I used to favor Myspace, but then I found about all the applications on Facebook, and I was hooked. I am sure that I have serious addiction issues. But, this is neither the time, nor the place. I liked all the ones we used in these challenges, too. I am sure that it's no coincidence that they are many of the numero unos on the list. Good job, TLC 2.0 folk!

Facebook has many cool little games you can play on it, when you add applications. You can even have humans as pets. You can auction them, you can buy them. Searching for souls. Weird, but it's all in fun. You can find old friends and make up for some lost time on Facebook.

Some drawbacks? Well, there's always the stalker issue. You may be found by people who you don't want to be found by. That's never fun. Also, sometimes some of the applications lose their mojo, don't work properly and are down for a bit. But, I suppose it's what happens with new programs.

How might libraries benefit from Facebook? By connecting, of course. Isn't that what it's all about? Connecting with other folk? Plus, others can learn about NSU Libraries through Facebook. It's a winner on many levels.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEEEE Youtube. Beyond love. I adore. So now that we have established that I worship Youtube... I already gave that Zoho thing my password for this blog, and I kinda don't want to give it to Youtube (even though I love it... I really, really do). Plus, I want to finish, finish, finish quickly because my brain is starting to fry, fry, fry in trying to get all these posts done by the end of the day. I'm marathon wo-man, here. I will do it eventually (probably) because I have loved Youtube forever and ever. Seriously. It's sad. You should see my myspace page. Well, why not. I was trying to be all anonymous and all throughout this challenge, but I guess it's almost over, so why not. Myspace, homie! Yep, me. Now you can see what a freak I really am.

What is one of my favs on Youtube? Gollum Borderline Love!!!!! There's also the non-Barry White one. But, the Barry White one was the original, so it has a special place in my heart. There are loads of things I love about Youtube. You can watch just about anything. Missed Marie Osmond fainting on DWTS? It's there. And... where else can you see Thriller in Legos and Brahms in the same place? And... remember Dexter? Across the UNIVERSE!!!! My younger brother is even on Youtube. But, I won't post that on here. I made fun of him enough when I first found out about it. So, I feel remorse now and won't do it. No, no. I can't.

This is very similar to Windows... Kinda cool, though. I like the and it seems like an ~~intra~~ interesting thing. Hmmmmm... what else to write? I dunno. I don't really have much to say write now. Plus, I have to continue on my merry little way through the TLC 2.0 challenges. On a time crunch. But, I opened an account and I played with it a little. I shall come back and continue playing later. Yeah... I don't know if that would (could?) happen. But, this Zoho writer is very similar to it. Plus, it's free. Plus, it's kinda cool. I saved a document on it, but not sure if you will be able to see it... let's try. It was just a mini paragraph though. I'm there though. I'm "theddpsycholady" (what else would you expect?).

Addendum: I tried pasting Zoho page in a hyperlink for this blog, but did not work. So, I published it instead. It is the blog post right above this one. It says: El Zorro Zoho.

I will play with it more later. It does look pretty interesting. Plus, it's FREE!

Playing catch-up can be tough! If only I hadn't had to leave it to the last minute. Ugh. I just have to keep swimming, though! I'm doing the NSULibs Wiki one. I added my blog to the page. At first, I thought I messed the whole page up and had to play with it so as not to completely Fudge it up. Crisis averted, and I'm Me! on the page, BTW. Sooo... I edited a Wiki and didn't completely cause the downfall of it's existence. Go, me!

Wet, Wild, and Wiki...

Wiki, Wiki, What?!?!?!? As you all know, I love me some Wikipedia. So, this exercise was muy bueno. I liked the explanation given in Wiki, Wiki, Wiki!. Plus, Wikipedia has it's own little blurb on Wiki. But, of course. I like it. I LOVE IT! I want some more of it!!! O.K. I stop it. I'm making myself nauseous (not a big country fan. Sorry to those who are... Plus, I've exceeded my "corny level").

OK. When I was reading info for this challenge, I thought, "It would be nice if someone posted the library in Wikipedia." I was going to write it in my wee bloggie. Something along the lines of: "Maybe someone should add Alvin Sherman to the Wikipedia." That would be good for the library, no? Then I thought, let me see if it's already there. And, guess what. It was! Good job, you (whoever "you" are. And, by "you," I mean the you that put Alvin Sherman there in the first place). That's cute! That which we call a library, by any other name would smell as... finely bookish? The end.

Today is "supposed" to be the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month. However... since I have not had time to post all the posts I have wanted to post, I plan on extending HHM. Well, I realize that I can't "officially" extend it. However, for the purposes of this blog, I will. So... no worries. You will can continue to read about awesome Hispanics. Yay!

I thought that many interesting points were brought up in this article. It is especially true that online books/articles, etc. have brought the library business to a whole new ballgame (bookgame?). It's amazing. I may not be a librarian, but I do get to see how patrons love their electronic resources (and how they want their documents delivered NOW!). They want their PDFs and their Zips and their this and that emailed. Oh, how upset they can get if they don't!!!! How could they have possibly survived back in the day, when practically ALL research had to be done at the library. No internet, no email, no nada (well, just "nada" because the former's a double negative).

For someone who really does not like "new and improved" so much... (well... not entirely true. I like it when I get used to it. When it becomes "not-as-new and improved," I guess). Well anyhow, for me, these challenges have been kind of O.K. Every once in a while I've run into a snag or two (or several), but overall it hasn't been too bad. This technorati stuff. I opened a del.icio.us account and downloaded it to my work computer. It's pretty interesting to see who has the sites I've tagged. See me! It could be good advertising for the library... Good deal. "La Llorona" was the answer we were looking for. It's a story about a woman who drowns her children after being abandoned by her man. Those men...

Folklore says that you can hear "La Llorona" crying for her drowned children. Sometimes she's looking for live children to take, and replace her own. Some sneaky parents tell this story to their kids so that they can later say, "If you don't cut it out, "La Llorona" is going to come and get you." Manipulate, much? Sometimes it's, "You have to come inside from playing. It's getting late and "La Llorona" will be out soon." O.K... So maybe it was just my mother... Anyhow, there are many different versions of "La Llorona." I guess it all depends on what Latin American country you're from, and then what town in that particular country. According to this website, there is a movie being made (that's been made?) about "LL."

I really like the billboard generator thing. What will Flickr think of next? I tried playing with the caption generator one, but that wasn't really working to my advantage. The caption bubble kept messing up and half of it would end up out of the picture. I tried Warholing this sneaker picture (I LOVE me some sneakers), but that didn't work out too well either. I guess the picture was too light. But, the billboard one worked nicely. Don'tcha think?

Dexter's Laboratory

I'm venturing off my "Hispanic Heritage" month theme to do a TLC 2.0 post. A chick's gotta do what a chick's gotta do. What's my post, you ask? I shall tell, since you are oh so intrigued. Have you heard of (or even seen) that show "Dexter" that people have been raving about lately? I heard the hype, but I tend not to believe it. Well... not usually. Some shows are incredibly dumb (did you hear they were making a show featuring cavemen... yeah... pass...).

But, back to Dexter. I watched a couple of episodes of this show recently... Wow. That's all I can say. Well, no. I can say loads more. It's edgy. It's interesting. It keeps me focused and wanting more (a not-so-simple task). It's a new idea (well... at least one that I'd never heard of... he's a serial killer serial killer. Brilliant). It's just a really, really good show. If you have the opportunity to catch a couple of episodes of Dexter, please don't let it fly by.

So, in honor of dear ol' Dex, I am making a billboard. I hope it's not too much.

On a similar note... Jeff Lindsay is the masterful mind behind the mayhem. And... guess what... we carry 2/3 of the Dexter series books here at the ASLRITC. They're supposed to be to die for... Too much? Alright, I'll give you that. I'm starting to sound like the Crypt Keeper, yeah? Anyway... read the books. Watch the show... and enjoy the (slightly) empathetic Dahmer (without the nasty meals) of South Florida.

Ugly Betty is a sitcom based on a Colombian (then Mexican) telenovela (are you surprised no Wikipedia links?). It's shown on ABC, and is anything but an ugly show. It was recently awarded 3 Emmys and is doing pretty... well, pretty. If you missed yesterday's season premiere, you can watch it online: here. Power Pummeling Piñatas

As mentioned in the previous post, Google is this many years old today: 9. Happy Birthday Google!!! We all love you oodles. Right? Of course. From Gmail to Youtube. It is great. Google the Great. Catchy. It could be a ruler of a distant land.

Anyhoooo... I saw the piñata in the picture when doing a search earlier today and I got to thinking... Piñata Post!! But of course. Always thinking of the "Hispanic Heritage Month" theme. You know the drill... Let's Wikipedia, shall we: WikiAta.

Everyone loves piñatas. They are filled with candy goodness, afterall. Perhaps not the dream of dentists, but surely that of most children. XBox/Microsoft even has a game out called, "Viva Piñata." Kids can virtually beat the stuffing out of animal shaped piñatas. How sweet and loving. Teaching kiddies everywhere to love all creatures, great and paper. An empathy saturated game, I'm sure.

Well, anyhow. If piñatas are definitely your cup of chocolate milk, click the link and see how to make a piñata. There are other websites that show you how to make these Mexican beauts. You can get pretty creative with them. Just be careful with that stick (or bat, or whatever).

Stormy Storni

Congrats to 40 Forever for answering the last post correctly! You are the bomb. The answer was Alfonsina Storni. I know, I know... I reference Wikipedia way too much. It's quick and easy. Plus, the info is usually right. Well, a lot of the time. Some of the time? Nah. Most of the time.

Alfonsina Storni (May 29, 1892 – October 25, 1938) was one of the most important Ibero-American poet of the postmodernism movement.

Alfonsina was born in Sala Capriasca, Switzerland to an Argentine beer industrialist while in Switzerland for a few years. There Alfonsina learned to speak Italian. Back in Argentina the family had to, after the business failed, to open a tavern in the city of Rosario, where Alfonsina would work at a variety of chores.

She taught literature at the Escuela Normal de Lenguas Vivas, and she published Ocre. Her style now showed more realism than before, and a strongly feminist theme. Solitude and marginality began to affect her health, and worsening emotional problems forced her to leave her job as teacher.

Trips to Europe changed her writing by helping her to lose her formal models, and reach a more dramatic lyricism, loaded with an erotic vehemence unknown in those days, and new feminists thoughts in Mundo de siete pozos (1934) and Mascarilla y trébol (1938).

A year and a half after her friend Quiroga committed suicide in 1937, and haunted by solitude and breast cancer, Storni sent her last poem, Voy a dormir ("I'm going to sleep") to La Nación newspaper. The following day she committed suicide, by walking into the sea at the La Perla beach in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Storni once referred to men as el enemigo, "the enemy." Much of Storni's work focuses on what she sees as the repression of women by men. This often takes the form of personal insults directed at men in general, which sometimes reach psychotic proportions. For example, in "Tú me quieres blanca" (You want me white), she wrote, Dios te lo perdone, "God forgive you," even though the poem is about male hypocrisy regarding the chastity of women. In other words, she viewed hypocrisy by men as a mortal sin.

Congrats to my buddy the Constructed Genius (if you ask me, she's not under construction... she's already a genius) for correctly choosing Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the famous Nobel Prize winning author. The fireworks are for you, my dear!!! YAY! And it isn't even any holiday (that I know of... we wouldn't be here if it were, I suppose). Yes, he is from Colombia. I myself was made, but not born in Colombia. Anyhoo... Oprah put her seal on his book, "One hundred years of solitude." It's a great book (with or without Miss Oprah's seal (no offense to the Mighty O. I would not want to incur her wrath (or that of any of her minions, for that matter))... but, the man does have a Nobel Prize, for gosh sake. I think that trumps the O sticker any day).

NSU also carries GGM's memoir. According to NOVACAT, it should be on the shelves (here end my ASLRITC plugs for the day). Please don't hurt yourselves running to the shelves all at once. You can always ILL it if you are not fortunate enough to make it there in time (O.K. the shameless plugs end here for sure).

It is Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15). Don't believe me? Let's Wikipedia it, shall we? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispanic_Heritage_Month. Seeing as though this is my blog and all, I give myself full permission to do so.

I currently have 16 feeds in my Blogline account. There are some interesting ones (by "interesting," I mean, to me) and range from the news, to the arts, and to the animals (the collective animals... not just the birds, this time (see former blog below regarding "chicks" to get "it")). Anyhow... There was an interesting little blurb about Caecilians in one of the feeds. What are they, you ask?

Caecilians are a lesser-known group of amphibians (Order Gymnophiona) that have no limbs and only a very short tail.

Amazing how our research abilities have evolved. Too bad we can't say the same thing for our little legless friend over here. Weird segmented little beastie, huh?

How do I love thee?.... Hmmmm.... I've signed up for a blogline account, and signed up for some feeds that were requested for the challenge, but I can't figure out how to add the blogline feeds to my already established blog (this one). I'm not sure if this is even possible? I tried setting the blogline account to public, but can't figure out how to do this. If I were to add the URL of my blogline account site here, it will just put it as blank (I tried a couple of times). I'm going to put the URL as a hyperlink here, but I'm pretty sure that it will just be blank again. http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs How MUCH do I love thee? That remains to be seen. If I work on it some more, maybe I can learn to love you loads.

These challenges are proving to be more and more ugh-ing as they progress!!! Promise this will be the most difficult one? With this and the mashed up one, I'm about ready to call it quits!!!!!!!!!

The Monster Mash

O.K. So, I tried. I really tried. I went to several websites and ended up frustrated trying to figure out how to do one of those "Mashup" deals. I tried the ones suggested in the instructions. I tried doing my own search and found this: http://www.bcdef.org/flappr/ . I figured, Flappr, Flickr. It might work. Lots of cute pictures, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Mind you, I have the attention span of a gnat sometimes (most times?), so that might have had something to do with it. Also, could have just been N.Y. impatience.

So, anyhow, I searched for chicken pictures on Flappr. Que cute!!! There were these little ones that were dyed different colors (I'm not sure how the tiny chickens felt, but they looked ADORABLE). Couldn't figure out how to make a little collage of all the pictures. Apparently, it is related to Yahoo! somehow, and I was prompted to merge my Yahoo account with a Flappr account, but chose not to. Chicken? Maybe. I don't know what it would have done with the pictures in my yahoo account, and didn't want to risk it. Afterall, I don't know Flappr from Adam. But, to be fair, it was a nice website.

So, "C" stands for: couldn't figure this challenge out. But... I did see lots of cool pictures.

Flickry Do Da Days

So, I never heard about Flickr before starting this exercise. It's pretty neat, actually. There are lots of interesting pictures in there, some with little blurbs. It allows for people to showcase not only their pictures, but also their photography skills.

I wanted to find a couple of Paris pictures. When I searched the "Paris," I came upon "The Lizard King's" tomb. Pretty interesting, A., because I didn't realize Jim Morrison was buried in Paris, and B., because I never knew what his grave looked like. I repeat. Pretty interesting (not to mention pretty dirty... don't they clean those cemeteries?). Upon further investigation, I found the following information in Wikipedia (which also has a great site):

Morrison is buried in the famous Père Lachaise cemetery in eastern Paris. The grave was unmarked until French officials placed a shield over it, which was subsequently stolen in 1973. In 1981, Croatian sculptor Mladen Mikulin placed a bust of Jim's head on top of the gravestone to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Jim's death. The bust remained until 1988, when it was stolen. After that, the new headstone with Morrison's name was erected. The Greek inscription on the square headstone reads Κατὰ τον δαίμονα ἑαυτοῦ, in capital letters (ΚΑΤΑ ΤΟΝ ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ ΕΑΥΤΟΥ). The inscription means "True to his own spirit".

May he rest in peace (and may people stop stealing from his grave).

Learning to learn

It's true what is said in, "7 and 1/2 lifelong learning habits." It's never too late (or too soon) to learn something. As children we learned many valuable life lessons. As we mosey on through life, our personal and collective experiences invite us to learn more and more. In fact, with each minute of life, we are learning. For example, I recently learned that the first sailing boats were built in Egypt. Amazing what the simple act of opening a Snapple bottle can teach you.

But, I digress. For this week's task we were asked to explain what our easiest and hardest learning habits would be...

Let's start with the hardest to get that out of the way. Using technology to my advantage (AKA Habit 6) is difficult for me. You just need to spend a few minutes in our office to know how much I dislike technological change (I-phone, what?!?!?!?). Either that, or ask Systems. Yes, yes. I know. Technology is great. Blah. Humbug. I'll clutch onto Pine until my last dying breath. Well... maybe. People can change, afterall. Theoretically. Plus, I think I have to work on this difficult habit in order to get credit for this post, right? Either way. Change is good. Technology? Great. Fine, at the very least. I'll work on it.

Easiest learning habit? Soooooo easy. 7 and 1/2 my dear library folk. Play, of course! I do know the value of play. Even at work, play is great (don't believe me... again... ask my co-workers). Not to toot my own horn or anything. Heck. Why not. Let's toot away. I'm a wicked multi-tasker. At least I like to think so. Plus, all work with no play makes for one dull girl (or boy... person in general). One dull environment. And, that would be, well... Blah. We can't have an excess of blah. Besides. The tutorial told us to have fun as one of our habits. We should learn from the information we are provided. I choose to learn about fun.
